Default Kiffin

I'm sure you guys saw this, but isn't this way too stupid?

Last year, a fairly ridiculous story made the rounds wherein Lane Kiffin, then the new head football coach at Tennessee, reportedly offered a scholarship to 14-year-old Evan Berry, younger brother of UT All-American Eric Berry and soon-to-be high school freshman, who reportedly accepted. Now at USC, Kiffin apparently figured on Thursday that was setting the bar a little too low -- why target eighth-graders, after all, when you can get to them in seventh grade:

Kiffin is the idiot fired by Davis?

Yeah that's the same Kiffin. Sounds to me like Lane isn't the most honorable of people. But then again, neither is Al Davis IMO. Tough to say who was more at fault there. I have no doubt Lane will do good things at USC. The place almost recruits for itself. Pete Carroll did a great job there but he had big problems preparing his teams week in and week out. Almost every year he lost a game to a bottom dweller in the conference. That's unacceptable for a perennial top 10 team.

not so sure about USC as a team and all, but signing a 13 year old is like jumping out of an airplane without a parachute. In 4 years the kid could be out of football altogether from lack of interest to not developing to not .... I would assume if the would-be player shows up, he's got a scholarship even if he can't play. There would have to be some limit to the number of scholarships a team can offer ergo bad move?

Is insanity considered a disease? Are innoculations for it being developed? Is Kiffen first in line when available?

I think Pete Carrol's departure for the Seahawks was pre-mature.

Kiffin seems more suited for the college level right now. Al Davis hasn't done well lately with his head coaches. He might be in line behind Kiffin for that insanity vaccine.

This type of thing isn't unprecedented. Damon Bailey committed to Bob Knight at Indiana when he was in 7th grade.

I'm not so sure Carroll's departure was premature. His relationship with the school's AD was falling apart. Probably due the the NCAA sanctions that are coming USC's way. Carroll was running a dirty program that was getting exposed quite a bit in recent years.

His timing was good. I'm not sold on Pete Carroll as a NFL head coach. He seems to fit the mold of Lou Holtz and Steve Spurrier...good college coaches poorly suited for the NFL.
